Hacker News article Google is looking to become a real force in Mexico’s meat market, according to several reports, with a new product targeting Mexican meat producers.
Google is reportedly testing a new meat market product dubbed Meat Market, according to Business Insider.
The product will reportedly use Google’s existing search engine to show consumers relevant content from meat producers, according the report.
Google is reportedly looking to acquire Mexican meat market producer Osoyoos and other meat processing companies, according a report from Mexican news outlet El Universal.
El Universal also reports that Google is seeking to acquire the entire beef industry in Mexico.
Osoyooos, which operates the largest cattle processing facility in Mexico, recently announced that it would shutter its operation in 2019, citing economic hardships and lack of infrastructure.
“The decision is based on the need to diversify our business operations in Mexico,” Osoyos CEO Sergio Gómez told the newspaper.
According to El Universal, Google is also working with other Mexican companies, including Mexican meat processors, to develop products aimed at improving the food quality in Mexico and other Latin American countries.
Google has not yet confirmed the report, and the company did not immediately respond to Ars’ request for comment.
